Overview
The Halifax Regional Municipality is currently under a severe flood warning due to an intense, slow-moving storm system bringing record-breaking rainfall. Pluvial and fluvial flooding are occurring across the region, with many roads impassable and some low-lying areas already under a mandatory evacuation order. Residents are strongly advised to stay indoors and off the roads. Do not attempt to drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters, as they can be deceptively deep and dangerous. Flood Update 2
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for the communities of Lakeview and Waverley due to a significant rise in water levels in the Sackville River watershed. Residents in these areas should evacuate immediately to the nearest designated shelter. The municipality has opened an emergency shelter at the Canada Games Centre. All residents are urged to have a "grab-and-go" bag with essential supplies ready.
Flood Update 1
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a flash flood warning for all of the Halifax Regional Municipality. Over 150 mm of rain has fallen since last night, and an additional 50-75 mm is expected throughout the day. Key arterial roads, including sections of Bedford Highway and Sackville Drive, are closed due to high water levels. Emergency services are advising residents to shelter in place unless an evacuation order is issued for their specific area.
